How to Export SCORM from Adobe Captivate
Adobe Captivate is a full-featured e-learning authoring tool that supports SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 export. Here's how to publish your finished project as a SCORM package.
Before you start
- Your Captivate project is complete
- You know which SCORM version to export (if unsure, use SCORM 2004 — see our comparison)
Step-by-step: Publishing to SCORM
1. Enable LMS reporting
By default, Captivate projects don't report data. To change this, go to Edit → Preferences (Windows) or Captivate → Preferences (Mac).
In the Preferences dialog, select Quiz → Reporting from the left menu.
- Check the box for Enable reporting for this project.
- Under Standard, select SCORM 2004 (we recommend the 4th Edition) for the best tracking capacity.
2. Configure the SCORM manifest
Still in the Reporting preferences, click the Configure button next to the Standard dropdown. In the manifest dialog that appears:
- Course Identifier — a unique ID that the LMS uses to track this specific course.
- Course Title — the human-readable name of the training.
- Description — optional context about the course.
Click OK when finished.
3. Set completion and success criteria
Back in the Reporting preferences window, look at the Criteria section. You must explicitly tell Captivate what constitutes a completed course:
- Slide Views — the learner must view a specified percentage or number of slides. (100% is the standard choice for non-graded compliance content).
- Quiz Is Passed — the learner must achieve a minimum score on the embedded quiz.
- Quiz Is Passed and Slide Views — both conditions must be met.
Click OK to save your preferences and close the dialog.
4. Publish the SCORM package
Now that tracking is configured, go to File → Publish.
- Choose HTML5 (or HTML5/SWF in older versions).
- Enter a Project Title and set the destination folder.
- Ensure the Zip Files option is checked so Captivate automatically creates the final SCORM ZIP for you.
- Click Publish.
Your SCORM package is ready to upload.
