California's required harassment training, ready to assign

California employers with five or more workers must train every California employee in harassment prevention within six months of hire, and again every two years. The Civil Rights Department publishes the official courses. Ethica assigns them, chases people until they're done, and keeps each certificate.

The official California courses, ready to assign

Launch a course in Ethica and each employee gets an email with a link to the official course. When they finish, they upload the certificate it gives them, and it's kept on their record. Ethica sends the reminders and schedules the next round.

Frequently asked questions

Which California employers must provide harassment prevention training?
Employers with five or more people working for them, counting employees, contractors, unpaid interns and volunteers, wherever they work (Gov. Code §12950.1; 2 CCR §11024(a)(3)). Only employees in California must be trained.
How often does the training have to be repeated?
Every two years. Employers can track each person's two years from their last training, or train everyone on an organization-wide cycle (2 CCR §11024).
What about seasonal and temporary staff?
Seasonal and temporary employees, and anyone hired to work for less than six months, must be trained within 30 calendar days or 100 hours worked, whichever comes first (Gov. Code §12950.1).
What records do we need to keep?
Keep training records for at least two years, including copies of certificates (2 CCR §11024). The state keeps no record of who took its courses, so the certificate each employee saves is the proof.
