Maine's mandated reporter training, ready to assign

Maine requires every mandated reporter to complete state-approved training at least once every two years, a change made in 2026 (it used to be every four). The Office of Child and Family Services publishes an online course. Ethica assigns it to the people who need it, follows up until it's done, keeps each certificate and brings it back every two years.

The official Maine course, ready to assign

Launch a course in Ethica and each employee gets an email with a link to the official course. When they finish, they upload the certificate it gives them, and it's kept on their record. Ethica sends the reminders and schedules the next round.

Your obligations, and the proof each one demands

Every rule below is easiest to prove with a record of who completed the training, and when. Ethica keeps that record for each person.

Mandated reporter training

22 M.R.S. §4011-A(9)

Who and when
Every mandated reporter: at least once every 2 years
Proof to produce
The certificate each person saves at the end of the course. It can't be reprinted later, so the copy in their record is the proof

Maine also requires harassment training at workplaces with 15 or more employees, and a yearly written harassment notice from every employer (26 M.R.S. §807). Those aren't ready-made yet: Ethica delivers your own course or notice with the same reminders and records.

Frequently asked questions

Who has to take mandated reporter training?
Every adult the law names as a mandated reporter when acting in a professional capacity, such as physicians, emergency medical services staff and dentists (22 M.R.S. §4011-A(1)). The list changed in 2026, so check the statute for the jobs at your organization.
How often?
At least once every two years (22 M.R.S. §4011-A(9), as amended by Public Law 2025, chapter 667). The online copy of the statute may still say four years until it is updated.
How does the employee get a certificate?
At the end of the course they enter their details and the course creates a certificate on screen. It can't be reprinted later, so they download it before closing the page and upload it to Ethica, where it stays on their record.
