How to Export a SCORM Package from Articulate Storyline 360

Articulate Storyline 360 is one of the most popular tools for building interactive compliance training. Once your course is complete, publishing it as a SCORM package takes a few minutes. Here's how.

Before you start

• Your Articulate Storyline 360 project is complete
• You know which SCORM version your delivery platform supports (if unsure, use SCORM 2004 — see our comparison)

Step-by-step: Publishing to SCORM

1. Open the Publish dialog

In the Storyline ribbon, click Home → Publish. The Publish dialog will open.

2. Select "LMS / LRS" as the publish destination

In the left panel of the Publish dialog, select LMS / LRS. This is the option that produces a SCORM-compatible output.

3. Set your course title and folder

Enter a title (it becomes the default LMS course title) and choose where the output folder will be saved on your computer.

4. Choose your SCORM version and reporting

Click Reporting and Tracking Options. On the LMS tab, choose SCORM 2004 from the Report to an LMS drop-down, then pick the edition (we recommend 4th Edition). This gives you more room to save course progress than SCORM 1.2.

• LMS tab: choose an LMS Reporting option. Articulate recommends Passed/Incomplete or Passed/Failed; Completed/Incomplete also works for training with no quiz.
• Tracking tab: choose what triggers completion: the number of slides viewed (e.g., 100%), a quiz result, or a trigger. Whichever option the learner meets first is reported.

5. Publish

Click Publish. Storyline will build the package and save it to your chosen folder.

What the output contains

After publishing, the Publish Successful window will appear. The easiest way to get your SCORM package is to click the Zip button directly in this window. Storyline will automatically bundle the required files, including the crucial imsmanifest.xml file, into a single ZIP file ready for upload.

If you close this window and need to zip the files manually later:

1. Open the output folder (click Open from the Publish Successful dialog, or navigate to where you saved it)
2. Select all files inside the folder (not the folder itself)
3. Compress them into a ZIP file

Warning: If manually zipping, ZIP the contents of the folder, not the folder itself, so imsmanifest.xml sits at the root of the ZIP. Ethica can still read a package zipped inside one folder, but many platforms reject it.

What counts as complete in Ethica

Ethica marks the course complete when it reports completed or passed, so any of Articulate's recommended LMS Reporting options works. A failed result doesn't complete it, so the learner can try again.
